Indiana teen killed after being hit by train

SYRACUSE, Ind. (WANE) – A Syracuse, Indiana teen was killed Thursday morning after being hit by a train. Christopher David Prater, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency personnel arrived at the railroad tracks near Warner Road and Cornelius Road in Syracuse.

The CSX freight train was on its way to Chicago when at 7:09 a.m., it struck Prater.

Details of why Prater was on the tracks are not known. The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team along with the Syracuse Police Department, the Turkey Creek Township EMS & Fire Department and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department all showed up at the scene.

Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson indicated that the death is still under investigation.
