Docs: AK47 used in Wildflower Court shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man accused in a shooting at an Indianapolis apartment complex that hurt three children and two women appeared in court Wednesday morning.

Domonique Stone turned himself in to police over the weekend.

Last week’s shooting happened near 59th and Georgetown. Police issued a warrant for Stone Friday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Stone stole a 2002 Ford Focus from a victim unrelated to the shooting. The affidavit says Stone approached the victim and threatened them with a handgun near Rader and Udell Street around 2:40 p.m. the day of the shooting. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Around 9:30 p.m. that same evening police were called to the 5000 block of Wildflower Court. When they arrived they observed five people, including children were shot in the apartment.

Police interviewed one of the witnesses. They told detectives that Stone knocked on their door. When the witness cracked open the door they saw two other men with masks on. The second man then forced his way into the home and said “you already know what time it is”, the affidavit stated.

The second suspect was armed with a handgun and the third was carrying a AK47. The witness ran from the suspects, while he was fleeing he heard gunshots.  The suspects fled the apartment after the gunshots rang out.

The witness ran through the apartment and noticed that everyone else had been shot. The witness told police he did not see a getaway vehicle. However, an anonymous witness told police they saw a white style sedan fleeing the scene.

Police recovered several spent rifle rounds and one spent 9mm round at the crime scene. Officers also discovered two mason jars containing what was believed to be high-grade marijuana.

One of the female victims had six to seven gunshot wounds in her leg, groin and abdomen. The second female had three gunshot wounds in her leg and one in her abdomen.

According to the second female, she was giving her children a bath when she heard a commotion outside the closed door. She went out of the bathroom and saw the suspects with guns and ran back into the bathroom and closed the door. She told officer that gunshots were immediately coming through the door. The victim said she knew she was shot, but was not sure if the children in the bathtub were.

The children were transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Detectives learned that one of the children had a gunshot wound to the back, leg and hand. Another child had a gunshot wound to the neck and had shrapnel in his chest and abdomen. The third had a gunshot wound to the thigh and arm.

Investigators say they are still looking for two other people wanted in connection to the shooting.

A jury trial for Stone is scheduled for June.
