Teen hit while walking on Madison Co. road dies
MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A teen who was hit Tuesday night while walking along State Road 13 has died, the Marion County coroner confirmed Wednesday morning.
The coroner’s office said 14-year-old Pierce Resler died after he was hit near 800 South and State Road 13 in Madison County just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger said three other kids were walking south on State Road 13 when Resler stepped out into the main road for an unknown reason and was hit by a northbound vehicle. Police say Resler was transported to a local hospital by a medical helicopter afterward.
The driver, 19-year-old Zachary Moran, stayed at the scene. Police do not believe the accident was due to any kind of driver negligence.
Mellinger says that roadway is “controversial” due to the high traffic volume the new truck stop brings.
