Indy slips into ice removal overdrive
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Snow Force worked to ready for a Sunday ice storm. A fleet of Snow Force trucks took to the streets around 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
WISH-TV Storm Track 8 team said a dreary mixture of sleet, snow and freezing rain would hit Indianapolis as early as Sunday afternoon and on through noon on Monday. The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning from 4:00 Sunday afternoon until 7:00 Monday morning. Other parts of the area have a winter weather advisory in place.
Storm Track 8 Meteorologist Rob Ellis said freezing rain was being reported across much of central Indiana and roads were becoming icy Sunday evening. Ice could knock down trees and power lines, so be sure to have your mobile devices fully charged.
Snow drivers have been advised to administer salt to streets as the weather worsens.
The DPW have almost 14,000 tons of salt on-hand and ready if the need calls for it. DPW believes that this plan will ensure that streets are safe for the Monday.
Indianapolis residents are urged to take extra time in the morning to get to their destinations as limited visibility and slick roads will be factors in the morning commute.
INDOT deployed trucks along the interstates, highways and state routes earlier Sunday afternoon. On Sunday night they had a total of 694 trucks deployed.
