USPS asks residents to clear mailboxes, pathways
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The U.S. Postal Service requests that Indianapolis residents clear snow and ice from pathways and mailboxes for the safety of mail carriers.
Mail carriers brave Indiana weather conditions on a daily basis. When the weather gets cold and icy, it can pose obstacles for carriers to safely deliver mail and packages.
“Snow and ice make delivery dangerous and slow,” said Greater Indiana District Manager Larry Diegel. “Maintaining a clear path to the mail box – including steps, porches, walkways and street approaches – will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service, and help them get those letters and packages delivered on time.”
The USPS reminds residents that if conditions become hazardous to mail carriers, service will take longer or even cancelled until further notice. This advisory includes when snow plows have covered mail boxes.
Diegel stated that “any curtailed mail is attempted the next delivery day.”
