COVID-19 vaccines available for Indiana kids under the age of 5

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana Department of Health announced Tuesday that COVID-19 vaccines are now available at some Indiana providers for children between 6 months and 5 years of age.

The state has updated its website to include private healthcare providers, local health departments, some hospitals, and some pharmacies locations that have the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines for kids in the age group.

Vaccine shipments are staggered and parents are asked to contact the provider before arriving to ensure the dose is available and that no appointment is required.

Some sites may accept walk-ins, but vaccines at pharmacies and hospitals are required to set up appointments due to the limited supply of vaccines, according to a news release issued Tuesday afternoon.

“We recognize that there is pent-up demand among parents eager to protect our youngest Hoosiers, but because vaccines are still arriving in Indiana for this age group, we ask for a little more patience to allow supply to catch up with demand,” said IDOH Chief Medical Officer Lindsay Weaver, M.D., FACEP. 

Shipments will continue to arrive this week at participating locations.
