Mike Pence visits Indianapolis to stump for Mike Braun
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Vice President Mike Pence visited downtown Indianapolis Friday night to speak to hundreds of people at this year’s Indiana Republican Party fall dinner.
The dinner kicked off with Gov. Eric. Holcomb talking about Indiana’s job growth, strong economy and balanced budget.
Holcomb said, “Last year, we broke the all time job-commitment record. We’re on track this year, to break that record again. We have a record high employment and a record low unemployment.”
Then Pence took the stage. He made a point to speak about the Hurricane Michael devastation on the Gulf Coast, the victims and the recovery. Pence painted a picture of the U.S. as a growing country. Pointing to what he says is a more than 4 percent economic growth.
The vice president also spoke about President Donald Trump and the swearing in of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Pence then said the main reason he’s here is to help Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Braun get elected. Braun will face Sen Joe Donnelly, a Democrat, in the Nov. 6 election.
Pence said, “A vote for Joe Donnelly is a vote to turn the United States Senate into the center of resistance in Washington, D.C. I have a message for my fellow Hoosiers on behalf of myself, the president and conservatives everywhere. It’s time to vote ‘no’ on Joe Donnelly. It’s time to send Mike Braun to the United States Senate.”
Braun said, “I need your help. We need everybody to get their friends and family out. We’re in the final stretch.”
Braun also urged people in the audience to go out and vote and make sure the GOP keeps its seats and ushers in new member.
Pence said he will be staying in Indiana and will be on the campaign trail Saturday.
