Woman dies in shooting on Indy’s near-east side
UPDATE: The woman shot and killed Wednesday on Tuxedo Street has been identified as 35-year-old La’Shelle Teasley, the Marion County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police were investigating a fatal shooting Wednesday on the city’s near-east side.
At around 6:30 a.m., members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to a shooting in the 900 block of North Tuxedo Street. That’s a residential area near 10th Street and Sherman Drive, less than a mile south of Brookside Park.
Police arrived and found a woman with at least one gunshot wound lying in the middle of the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to IMPD.
Officers on the scene say a person of interest was barricaded in a house but has since been taken into custody.
Detectives believe they have identified everyone involved and they were known to each other, but their exact relationship has not been determined, IMPD says.
IMPD sent extra officers to the scene a few hours later for “safety measures and crowd control.”
Investigators believe the shooting happened after a domestic disturbance and say there is no active threat.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Ryan Clark by email or by calling the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475.
