Woman dies after found with gunshot wound in residential area on west side
UPDATE: The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman shot Monday on West 12th Street as 30-year-old Sabrina Cowan.
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman with a gunshot wound died after being taken to a hospital Monday night, Indianapolis police say.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department went to a report of a person down just before 10 p.m. Monday in the 3500 block of West 12th Street. That’s in a residential area on the west side that’s a few blocks southeast of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Police found the woman in the front yard of a home and believed she was having a medical emergency, officers at the scene told News 8. She was taken to Eskenazi Health, where doctors learned she had been shot. She died at the hospital.
The woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will share her name once relatives are notified.
Police have not said what led to the shooting and did not share any suspect information. No arrests have been made.
