Soggy stretch ahead

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several inches of rain could be on the way for portions of central Indiana.

Tonight:

Warm front sliding in from the south should aid in sparking scattered showers to the area.  Expect rain to begin during the mid-evening hours, and increasing in coverage much later in the overnight leading to daybreak.

Temperatures should be nearly steady, if not warming a degree or two during the overnight hours – hovering in the middle 40s much of the night.

Wednesday:

Expect steady showers for the morning commute, with some moderate pockets of rain possible. A brief break from the rain is possible for early afternoon, before another surge works into the state just in time for the evening commute and beyond..

Despite the rain, temperatures will be running mild again, with highs in the middle to upper 50s.

Thursday:

Another dose of rain on the way, potentially heavy at times.  We’ll be under a flood watch for much of the area through Thursday evening.

Rainfall amounts between 1″-3″ will be possible.  Combined with an already saturated ground, this could lead to some flooding issues in urban areas, as well as low lying and poor drainage areas.

8 day forecast:

Following the rain, another blast of cold (not frigid) air returns. Highs on Friday only hit the upper 20s, with 30s on tap for the weekend.  Watch for a couple rounds of rain/snow mix for Sunday and Monday.  Numbers should warm back to the lower 40s early next week.
