‘All American’ debuts on The CW

LOS ANGELES (WISH) — Spencer James is a fast-rising football star for South Crenshaw High School.

That is until he’s recruited by Beverly High football coach Billy Baker.

Daniel Ezra plays Jones and Taye Diggs plays Baker in the new CW series “All American.”

Inspired by the real-life events of NFL players Spencer Paysinger, James must navigate the tough world of South Crenshaw High with the privileged world of Beverly High.

Adding to the drama, when James decided to play on Beverly’s team he was forced to move in with the coach’s family. That sets up tension between James and the coach’s son, Jordan. Jordan takes exception to have to fight for his father’s attention.

Jordan Baker is played by Michael Evans Behling. The 22-year-old grew up in Columbus, Indiana, where he attended Columbus North High School, The Republic reports.

Meanwhile, James finds an unlikely relationship with Jordan’s sister, who is fighting her own demons, while developing a crush on one of his new teammate’s girlfriends. That sets off tension between James and his new teammate, who then tries to get James kicked out of school.

There is also the underlying question about the relationship between James and Coach Baker. James was raised by a single mom, and we come to find out that James never knew his dad, raising questions about how Coach Baker came to know James.

With the backdrop of football and the two worlds colliding, something has to break. Will James make it in the privileged world of Beverly? Will he achieve his goal of making it to college or the NFL? Is Coach Baker making up for his past? Find out when “All American” debuts at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 on The CW.
