ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – One person is dead after an early Tuesday morning crash in Anderson.

According to the Anderson Police Department, an SUV and a motorcycle collided at 25th Street and Rabile Avenue at approximately 6:20.

The Indiana State Police said a 2016 Kawaski motorcycle, driven by 23-year-old Kumkoski, was traveling northbound on Raible Avene when it ran a stoplight at the intersection of 25th Street. The motorcycle then proceeded to hit a gold 2005 Chevy Trailblazer, which was traveling west through the intersection and was being driven by 52-year-old Ofelia Rangel.

After hitting the SUV, the motorcycle spun counter-clockwise and eventually burst into flames, coming to a stop on its side facing south in the southbound lanes of the intersection.

The SUV came to a stop in the northwest corner of the intersection, facing northeast.

While the motorcycle was still on fire, two good Samaritans were able to pull Kumkoski off the bike, out of the flames and onto a nearby curb.

Kumkoski was pronounced dead on the scene.

Rangel was transported to the hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.

ISP said the high rate of speed at which Kumkoski was traveling and the recklessness operation of the motorcycle were contributing factors to the deadly crash.
