2 juveniles charged in fatal shooting at Fort Wayne apartment complex

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police have arrested a pair of juveniles in a late Sunday shooting at a north-side apartment complex late Sunday that left a person dead.

Fort Wayne Police were called just after 10 p.m. to an address in the 1900 block of River Run Trail, in the Woodbridge Apartments complex, on a report of a shooting.

Dispatchers told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, that one victim was seriously hurt. Police at the scene said later that the person was downgraded to critical.

On Monday morning, Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Michael Joyner said the shooting victim died.

A group of people, possibly involved, were found a few blocks away and were questioned by police. Just before noon Monday, then, Joyner said police arrested two juveniles on felony murder charges. He said detectives believe robbery was the motive behind the killing.

Joyner did not identify the juveniles.

The shooting happened moments after a double shooting at the popular Texas Roadhouse restaurant on Washington Center Road, a couple of miles away. It’s not clear if the two cases are in any way related.

Anyone with additional information for either shooting is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.
