21 people displaced after east side fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Investigators are looking into what caused a fire Tuesday night that displaced 21 residents of an Indianapolis apartment complex.

The fire started shortly before 11 p.m. in the 11200 block of Redskin Place, at the Stonybrook Commons.

Indianapolis Fire Department officials say a family of five was sleeping in their apartment when they woke up to a loud banging on their door. Firefighters found heavy fire at the front of the building but were able to bring the flames under control quickly.

All eight units of the building were damaged by either fire, water or smoke. IFD Victims Assistance was working with residents to find them a place to stay.

No injuries were reported. The fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage.
