After rescuing abandoned puppies, animal shelter warns pet owners

VINCENNES, Ind. (WISH) — The Vincennes Animal Shelter helped rescue four abandoned puppies from the cold weather on Wednesday.

Shelter staff said the puppies were found under a bridge on River Road, freezing and eating trash.

Animal shelter director Leah Vantlin said the area where the dogs were found has no homes nearby.

Leaders are pleading with pet owners not to dump unwanted animals.

“This particular litter of puppies and any trying to survive out there without shelter would probably freeze to death, especially with this winter weather coming. If these puppies had been left out there all night, they probably would not have survived in the snow and ice and the cold,” said Leah Vantlin.

The puppies aren’t the only animals recently dumped in the countryside; the Vincennes Animal Shelter took in six other dogs this week that had been abandoned.

The shelter also reminded people that it is illegal to dump unwanted animals; instead you should either find the animal a good home or surrender it to your local shelter.
