Alpha Phi Alpha leading march in honor of MLK Day of Service

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) – They march to remember.

The Freedom March is a special tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led by his own fraternity brothers, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

They march to make sure future generations never forget what Dr. King fought for, but also remember to put his words into action.

Vice president of the Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Matthew Flier, said this day is significnat to his fraternity and others around the world.

“It’s a day of renewed commitment to service and just carrying on the message and the love that Dr. King gave us,” Filer said.

Mayor Hogsett believes that even though the country has come a long way since Dr. King’s days of battle during the Civil Rights Movement, the Day of Service is a reminder that there’s still work to be done.

“We take and accept the dream that was offered to us by Dr. King and now we’re charged with the responsibility of bringing that dream even into closer reality,” he said.
