Attempted murder charge sought against mother accused of injecting son with feces

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A mother accused of injecting feces into the IV bag of her son with cancer may now face an additional charge.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking to add an attempted murder charge against 41-year-old Tiffany Alberts of Wolcott.

The motion to add the charge was filed on Friday.

An associate professor of pediatrics told investigators that “if he had received any chemotherapy while he had bacteria in his blood, he would have died.” His chemotherapy had to be put on hold and doctors are concerned that the “best window” may have been missed to keep his leukemia in remission.

Alberts was charged in November after hospital staff at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health witnessed Alberts injecting an unknown substance into her son’s IV bag. Her son, who was being treated for leukemia, developed several infections. Staff added surveillance cameras to the room and that’s when Alberts was observed performing the injections.

When speaking with authorities, Alberts admitted to injecting her son with fecal matter in an attempt to get him moved to another unit at the hospital, which she felt had better treatment.

The new charge would be the eighth charge against Alberts. She currently faces six felony counts of aggravated battery and one felony count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

Alberts is due back in court on Jan. 17.
