What Fishers corporation plans to do at former TV picture tube plant in Marion
MARION, Ind. (WISH) — Fishers-based American Resources Corp. has announced it’s taken controlling interest in the former RCA/Thomson plant in Marion.
The RCA/Thompson plant made picture tubes for TVs before it closed in 2004, leaving its remaining 990 employees without jobs. The plant had begun producing black-and-white picture tubes in 1949, the New York Times reported in 2004. At its peak in 1973, nearly 4,000 people worked at the plant.
At the site, American Resources will refine lithium for electric vehicle batteries, and plans to create 300 jobs.
A news release issued Thursday gave no word on what was spent on the transaction or when the facility would be completed.
American Resource ended the week around $2 per share. The stock rose 6.5% in the past five days on NASDAQ.
