Close friends host vigil for man shot and killed by an IMPD officer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Close friends held a vigil for Sean Reed where he was shot by an Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) officer.

News 8 spoke with close friend Princess Kelly who was in tears.

“To hear people inbox me people from out of town telling me they’re killing your friend on Facebook, it’s wrong that’s just wrong they never should’ve done him the way that they did,” said Kelly.

Kelly said the 21-year-old was fun, full of laughter and didn’t deserve a life cut short. She mentioned that Reed was a high school graduate, was in the Airforce, an uncle, brother and dear friend.

“Anybody that have ever interacted with him that’s all he wanted. Everybody loved him that’s all I’ve known him for,” mentioned Kelly. “He always had my back. No matter what, that man always had my back and I’ll never forget that.”

News 8 learned Reed would’ve been 22 years old on June 16.

There was a moment of silence during the vigil outside the Indianapolis Public Library. Friends lit candles and released balloons. The ceremony wasn’t far from 62nd and Michigan Road, where Reed was killed.

Protesters crowded the streets and blocked traffic. It forced drivers to take detours off Michigan Road. They were marching and chanting for miles while demanding justice for Reed, something Kelly wants desperately.

“It’s been not just Sean, but it’s been multiple deaths in 24 hours. We all should just come together. It’s pointless if we don’t come together, then what? Then they’re (police) going to just keep doing the same thing,” said Kelly.

Many protesters have said they plan to be back out at the intersection Friday at noon.
