Columbus K-9 gets special dinner to celebrate retirement

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – A Columbus K-9 officer enjoyed a night to remember in honor of his final shift with the Columbus Police Department.

K-9 Officer Rex worked his final shift early Tuesday morning. For his hard work he was treated to a large steak from Texas Roadhouse in Columbus.

Rex has been with the department for eight years.

After he arrived from Czechoslovakia he began working with his handler, Officer Chad Lehman in 2008. During his career Rex made around 250 apprehensions, searched over 100 buildings for suspects and conducted 200 tracks for suspects.

Rex was also honored with a reception with fellow officers on Monday night. Officer Lehman will continue to care for Rex.
