NBA, NHL call off games due to COVID-19 protocols
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The national football league (NFL) is requiring all coaches and staff to receive a COVID-19 booster shot by Dec. 27.
The NFL is proactively working to avoid a COVID-19 outbreak that could lead a team to forfeit a game.
The league’s requirement extends to all Tier 1 and Tier 2 individuals who have previously received the vaccine.
Though players are considered Tier 1 along with coaches and trainers, the mandate doesn’t apply to players because discussions with the NFL Players Association are ongoing.
The most recent publicly released testing data from the NFL shows 29 positive tests from players between Nov. 14 and 27.
The NBA is postponing two upcoming Chicago Bulls games.
This is the first time this season that NBA games have been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.
No makeup dates have been announced at this time.
The National Hockey League (NHL) has seen three teams affected by COVID-19 this season with the latest being the Calgary Flames.
NHL officials say there is concern about the virus’ continued to spread throughout the team by warning of the “likelihood of additional positive cases in the coming days.”
The Ottawa Senators shut down their training facility and postponed three games in November.
The New York Islanders postponed two games last month as well.
