2 arrested in Columbus chase, crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Two men were taken into custody Monday afternoon in Columbus after a chase and crash.

According to the Columbus Police Department, an officer spotted a vehicle, driven by 48-year-old Robin Ransom, traveling on State Road 46. Ransom, police say, had multiple warrants out for his arrest.

The vehicle was pulled over in the area of 4th Street and Brown Street. However, soon after stopping, Ransom sped away, traveling westbound on State Road 46 and disregarded traffic signals in the process.

Ransom then attempted to turn on the northbound ramp of I-65 but lost his vehicle in the process and struck a concrete barrier. The department said that during the chase, Ransom exceeded speeds of 90 mph.

The vehicle’s passenger, 26-year-old Anthony Brown, was found inside the vehicle and was apprehended. Ransom, according to police, was found in shrubbery nearby and was then also placed under arrest.

Ransom and Brown, after being taken to the hospital for injuries, were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.

Ransom faces a number of preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement causing serious bodily injury, reckless driving causing injury, driving while suspended and possession of marijuana.

Brown faces a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana.
