Three men convicted in 2022 shooting death

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Three men were convicted Wednesday of a fatal March 2022 shooting near the North Split, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that Julius Thomas, Carlos Bryant, and Antonio Wynn were convicted of several charges for their roles in the robbery and shooting death of Kerwin Pollard in 2022.

A jury returned the guilty-as-charged verdicts after a seven-day jury trial.

Julius Thomas was convicted of murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury (level 2 felony), armed robbery (level 3 felony) and assisting a criminal (level 5 felony).

Carlos Bryant was convicted of murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury (level 2 felony), and armed robbery (level 3 felony).

Antonio Wynn was convicted of murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury (level 2 felony), and armed robbery (level 3 felony).

On March 6, 2022, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 block of Ingram Street on reports of a person shot. That area is near the North Split. At the scene, officers located Pollard suffering from two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Pollard was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Pollard and his fiancée were traveling around Indiana and other cities in the Midwest to sell clothing after posting items on Offer Up, an application for buying, selling, and trading items. The two stopped at a Subway restaurant, where they met Thomas and Bryant in the parking lot. Pollard gave his business card to the men. Later, Thomas contacted Pollard to express interest in buying the clothing and suggested they meet up.

Thomas and Bryant had Pollard follow them to multiple locations, eventually stopping at the scene of the crime, where Wynn joined them. While arranging the final details of the sale, Pollard was shot twice, and Pollard’s fiancée was forced out of her vehicle at gunpoint. Thomas and Bryant then stole the car, clothing, and other items inside the vehicle. Wynn fled the scene in his vehicle.

With the fiancée’s description of the vehicles, the phone numbers used to set up the sale and activity on stolen credit cards, investigators were able to track down individuals related to the perpetrators, and identify all three men involved.

“We are once again seeing the harrowing consequences of senseless gun violence in our community,” Prosecutor Mears said. “The victims came to Indiana to simply conduct their business safely when they were met with an unprovoked attack. Although we cannot replace the life that was lost, we hope today’s verdict provides some relief to Pollard’s family and those affected by this unspeakable tragedy.”
