Madison Co. deputy involved in Anderson shootout

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — A Madison County Sheriff’s Department deputy was involved in a shootout early Friday morning, according to Indiana State Police.

Just after midnight Thursday, state police detectives were sent to the area near Fifth Street and Jackson streets in Anderson to investigate an officer involved shooting.

They believe Deputy Robert Lemon was patrolling in the area when people at a nearby gas station began shooting “in his general direction,” a state police release said.

Lemon got out of his car and fired at least one shot. He was not injured. Detectives also believe another person drove by the gas station and fired shots.

A bullet struck a 20-year-old from Anderson in the shootout. The 20-year-old, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital and later released. The detectives did not immediately determine if the 20-year-old was struck by one of Lemon’s bullets or by a different bullet.
