Drivers to see more signs of major construction along I-69

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A major construction project planned in Hamilton County will start taking shape Thursday as work continues on the state’s “I-69 Major Moves 2020 Expansion Project.”

Contractors have moved into place at exit 210 off I-69 onto Campus Parkway. The exit that serves the Hamilton Town Center shopping area and Klipsch Music Center is planned to be altered to be the region’s second crossover diamond interchange.

On Thursday, workers would begin installing steel beams to be used in the expansion of the Campus Parkway bridge over the interstate. That phase of construction was expected to last two weeks.

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) spokesman, Nathan Riggs said people driving, shopping or living nearby would likely hear loud bangs from the piling driving work.

The summer holidays will make some of the future phases on constructions scheduled, including overnight work to repave I-69 from State Road 37 to Pendleton starting after Memorial Day.

Riggs said drivers could expect to have traffic impacted by shifted lanes and configurations for the construction of the diamond interchange at exit 210 after July 4.

“There’s going to be a lot of work this summer, next summer as well. There’s a lot of moving pieces so things are going to change,” Riggs said. “We want to keep people up to speed so if they’re coming to the area or they drive this area every day, they know what to expect and we can get everybody through this project and through their daily commute safely.”

The portion of the I-69 Expansion Project that is set to affect the most people includes widening the interstate from two to three lanes in both directions from Fishers to Pendleton.

Construction on the entire project is scheduled to continue through 2018.
