Family remembering man fatally shot during attempted robbery
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The investigation continues after police said a man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery on the north side of Indianapolis.
It happened in a parking lot near 38th Street and Keystone Avenue early Sunday morning.
Police said this homicide was one of two that happened over the weekend. So far this year, there have been 14 homicides. Police said 12 remain unsolved.
“Well, one thing for sure he’s not just another statistic,” said Melvin Moore, the victim’s son. “He was a very loved man.”
Family and friends are grieving the death of 67-year-old Rozzell Moore. They said he was getting ready to head home when his life was taken.
“He just liked people,” said Moore. “Tudy was his nickname, that’s what family called him.”
Moore did not want to go on camera. He told 24-Hour News 8 his father loved motorcycles.
“He was a member of the Black Angels, but he retired some years ago,” said Moore. “But he’s still well respected in that area.”
Moore said he’s looking back on the memories.
“When I was a kid he bought me and my brother a little mini bike for Christmas,” said Moore. “He used to wash his motorcycle and I’d be out there washing my mini bike with him. I just loved to see and hang out with my father.”
Moore said his father lived with him. He saw him every day.
“He had a sense of humor, you know? He would make you laugh,” said Moore. “Some of the things, the way he said because it he’s very soft spoken.”
But something happened in the early morning hours on Sunday. Police said Moore was sitting in his car getting ready to leave when two people approached him. Police believe he was robbed.
“I’m very frustrated. I’m angry,” said Moore. “They took my father’s life.”
Police have not released a description of the two suspects. They’re urging anyone with information to come forward.
Moore said he’s not sure who would do this. His family is now praying for police to make an arrest soon.
“His entire family and, yes, we want them caught,” said Moore. “We want justice served. We want justice served.”
