Fans tailgate downtown for Big Ten Championship
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Football fans from across the country spent time in Indianapolis this weekend. The Big Ten Championship game was held at Lucas Oil Stadium.
On Saturday evening Wisconsin played Penn State, but fans started tailgating early in the day.
The downtown celebration kicked off at 10:00 Saturday morning. Football fans bundled up in their team’s colors and filled Georgia Street for tailgating activities.
Event organizers said they don’t have numbers just yet, but said there seemed to be a big turnout.
“Both in Fan Fest and on Georgia Street we’ve been packed all day long. We had great turnout for our community events so I feel really good about it,” said Ryan Vaughn, president of Indiana Sports Corp.
Fan Fest was held inside the Indiana Convention Center. They had activities for fans of all ages including football drills and field goal kicking contests.
“It is awesome. I’m just so Penn State proud. There’s a lot of blue and white,” said one Penn State fan.
“It is electric. There is a lot of white and blue which is kind of scaring me a little, but I think we will pull off the win,” said one Wisconsin fan.
According to overnight police reports, three people were arrested after they were told to leave Lucas Oil Stadium and not return, and then returned. Another person was arrested after officers were called for an unruly patron. When the officer arrived he tried to escort the man to the security office and the man struck the officer in the face.
