Fatal crash on I-465 near I-70 on west side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man died after a crash on I-465 on the city’s west side Friday.

Indiana State Police troopers were dispatched at 8:30 p.m. to I-465 southbound near the I-70 ramps.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that 25-year-old Karim Rahmaan got out of his SUV to check on a trailer that was hauling a race car.

Rahmaan was on the right side of the trailer between the trailer and the concrete barrier when the trailer was truck by a southbound vehicle, driven by 51-year-old Steve Hornaday of Greenwood.

Rahmaan, struck by the trailer during the crash, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Hornaday was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. It is not yet known why his vehicle struck the trailer, which was on the emergency shoulder.

ISP said this is an ongoing investigation.
