Good Samaritan Network hands out 29K turkeys to families in need

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Nearly 29,000 Hamilton County families will have a happier Thanksgiving this year, thanks to the Good Samaritan Network.

Saturday was the network’s annual distribution of food basket event.

It took place at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Families in need were able to show up and pick out a box filled with a turkey and enough sides for a family.

“A lot of these people have jobs, like three or four jobs in a family,” explained Nancy Chance with Good Samaritan Network. “But they’re not making what they were making in 2007 and it’s really hard to find jobs paying what they were making seven, eight, nine years ago.”

The families receiving help had to sign up for it.

The network says folks can still sign up for their Christmas assistance program.
