Hundreds of KKK flyers with IN area code found in NC

CLEVELAND, N.C. (WNCN) – Hundreds of Johnston County residents woke up to find recruiting flyers from a white supremacist organization.

“This would be the last place that something like this would be found, let alone the last place they would be recruiting for something like this,” Brent Reck said.

Like most mornings, Reck started his Sunday by checking what was trending online.

“I clicked on Facebook this morning and there was just one post that said there were some KKK trash thrown out in front of my house,” he said.

Reck said he stepped outside to find a KKK recruiting flyer on his driveway.

“All the way down our street was littered with these packets with the KKK flyers inside of them,” he said.

Reck believes it was tossed onto his property sometime overnight. He’s not sure by who, because the number on the flyer has an Indiana area code. He wanted to find out who was behind it.

No one picked up, but the voicemail started with, “the Confederate White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is now accepting membership in the United States of America.”

The message goes on to tell callers how to join and how to donate to the cause.

“Time now is getting short,” it goes on to say. “You see all the garbage on television and you know what’s going on. White pride, worldwide.”

Reck hung up and said, “that’s ridiculous… that’s crazy.”

It’s not clear what or why the KKK, based out of Indiana, is doing in North Carolina, but it’s something Reck said is not welcome in his neighborhood.

“I think there’s racial diversity from both sides. I think we’re in a tough spot, and I am sure there’s frustration everywhere,” Reck said. “I personally don’t think this is the way to go about it.”
