IFD helps rescue dogs stuck under bridge

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two pit bulls were rescued from under an Indianapolis bridge Saturday afternoon.

Passers-by flagged down an IFD truck to say that two dogs were stuck under the underpass near S. Belmont Avenue and Kentucky Avenue.

IFD deployed a boat in an attempt to reach the animals from the water while crews also worked from above.

The owner of the dogs arrived as crews were beginning the rescue operation. The owner entered the water and reached the pit bulls.

Rescue crews helped the man and the animals up a steep embankment.

IFD would like to remind pet owners to call for help before putting themselves in harms way to rescue an animal.

There were no injures.
