IMPD’s annual Clothe-A-Child program provides 61 children shopping spree
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police in Indianapolis provided holiday cheer for kids in need on Wednesday.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Chief Troy Riggs and the general manager of Hubler Chevrolet, were presented a $10,000 check to IMPD’s annual Clothe-A-Child Program on Monday.
The generous donation provided 61 children a shopping spree.
“All the kids got to use the lights and get in the PA system and they seem to have a lot of run with it….It’s very rewarding for me to be able to do that and give back,” Alexandra Lowcher, IMPD officer said.
The schedule of events that happened for the day include:
- 9 a.m. – Breakfast at Hubler Chevrolet
- 9:30 a.m. – Police escorted caravan of officers and children to Greenwood Mall
- 10 a.m. – Officers and children arrive at the mall to shop at J.C. Penny
- 11 a.m. – Officers and children traveling to Shoe Carnival
- Noon – Officers and children returning to Hubler Chevrolet for lunch, entertainment and Santa
- 1 p.m. – Santa arrives
The program was funded by Hubler Chevrolet with support from J.C. Penny Department Stores and Shoe Carnival.
IMPD says it hopes the event will help build trust between young people and police.
This year’s program cost approximately $20,000, according to IMPD.
