INDOT: record-breaking total of projects in 2019

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For many people, the start of spring means ditching the heavy coats and spending more time outdoors.

For the Indiana Department of Transportation, spring means construction season.

On Tuesday, INDOT announced a record-breaking number of construction projects around the Hoosier state, with 1,100 planned for 2019.

The Next Level Roads project is a $2 billion investment that will support interstate, highway and bridge projects across the state. The projects include patching, repaving and added travel lanes to I-65.

In addition to the $2 billion, Gov. Eric Holcomb also announced the state will invest $140 million for immediate projects to address winter weather damage.

“It is a recurring process, and some of those will be adding travel lanes on some of the main connectors and interstates around the state of Indiana, but others is just taking care of what we have and making sure that Hoosiers are getting the quality product that they are paying for and that they deserve,” said INDOT Commissioner Joe McGuinness.

Drivers can expect closures and detours as these projects start to get underway. An interactive, online map allows people to check for detours and the progress of projects.
