Indiana teen leads police on chase in stolen vehicle
KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A teen faces charges after crashing a stolen vehicle while leading police on a chase.
According to Indiana State Police, a 2009 Ford Ranger pickup truck was stolen from a gas station at 6th Street and Old Wheatland Road in Vincennes around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Shortly after the car was reported stolen, an Indiana State Police trooper saw the vehicle on U.S. Highway 50 near Wheatland.
The trooper attempted to stop the car, but the driver, later identified as 18-year-old Austin Eckes from Vincennes, refused to stop.
Eckes reached speeds of up to 95 mph, police stated. Eckes struck a Chrysler Pacifica when trying to turn onto State Road 57. The Pacifica was pushed into a Chrysler 300, which was then pushed into a GMC Sierra.
Two drivers and two passengers were taken to an area hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Eckes was treated at the hospital for a neck injury, and was then taken to the Knox County Jail. He faces charges of resisting law enforcement, theft, and reckless driving.
