Indy counting the days until 100th Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The countdown is on. Friday marked 100 days until the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

To make it all official, there was a big ceremony at the Statehouse Friday morning. Mayor Joe Hogsett and Secretary of State Connie Lawson declared Friday the “100th Running of Indianapolis 500 Countdown Day.”

Special bottles of milk signed by drivers were on display at the Statehouse. The bottles were scheduled to be dropped off throughout the city as part of the festivities for the day.

Also at the ceremony were several Indy Car drivers, including 3-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves. He is the only driver this year who would have a chance to get a 4th win during the 100th Running, tying a track record.

“I feel that, not only a few close friends, but a lot of fans as well, would like to see that,” Castroneves. “I want to see that. And it would be awesome. And even a special day with them and their friend.”

The 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday May 29.
