Casino, coal company detail furloughs, layoffs
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Two more Hoosier companies have announced furloughs and layoffs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In separate notices to the state, Four Winds Casinos in South Bend and Gibson County Coal LLC say the moves will affect a total of more than 530 workers.
Four Winds Casinos says it has begun implementing temporary furloughs at all of its locations in Michigan and Indiana. In the Hoosier state, the move involves 414 employees, though the company says all will be recalled once operations resume.
The Indiana Gaming Commission last month ordered all casinos to close due to the pandemic. The company says it does not have an anticipated return date.
Meanwhile, Gibson County Coal says it is permanently laying off 117 employees from its locations in Owensville and Princeton. The company says the layoffs will take effect April 26.
