Hendricks Behavioral Hospital expanding mental health access

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — While the emergency phase of the pandemic is coming to an end with vaccination rates on the rise, rates of mental health and behavioral issues due to anxiety and stress are on the rise, according to Mental Health America. In response, Hendricks Behavioral Hospital has announced plans to expand its Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults to meet the need. 

Mental Health America reports demands for behavioral health and addiction treatment services are on the rise in Indiana, with the state experiencing one of the highest rates of mental illness in adults at 22.5%

The hospital says its PHP program provides patients with intense mental health care five days a week while allowing them to maintain their own home, which is a step below from 24-hour inpatient care. The hospital’s IOP is less intensive than PHP but still offers comprehensive treatment for mental illness and substance use disorder by meeting at least three times a week.

“Indiana was already experiencing a high opioid use epidemic, and COVID-19 has only exacerbated the situation. People have used various coping mechanisms to get through the stress of the pandemic, which includes use of alcohol and other substances. With our focus on care and unparalleled service of our teams, we are addressing the urgent community need with expanded offerings designed to get people the help they need,” said Hendricks Behavioral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Eva Mancewicz.
