University of Evansville reschedules commencement
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – University of Evansville President Christopher Pietruszkiewicz says the school will postpone the 2020 commencement that was scheduled for September 19 until May of 2021. The university says the decision was impacted by current trends in the COVID-19 pandemic across the nation.
The university says it will move forward with a Virtual Graduate Recognition Day on September 19.
“We recognize that the date is getting much closer, and we simply did not want to disappoint our 2020 Graduates with a delay at the last minute. Every graduating class at UE deserves their special day, and we are committed to ensuring this happens…. even if we must wait a few months. Commencement is not cancelled – just postponed so that we can properly celebrate in person in May of 2021,” stated Pietruszkiewicz. “We will be working with the Student Government Association leadership from the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 to determine whether this will be a combined or separate Commencement ceremony. We very much look forward to your thoughts and suggestions.”
President Pietruszkiewicz says although Governor Eric Holcomb’s Executive Order is due to expire on August 27, he expects the order will be extended or modified.
