Hoosier Thanksgiving hot spots: His Place Eatery
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — His Place Eatery, a soul food and barbecue spot on the east side of Indianapolis, is also a hot spot on Thanksgiving.
Chef James Jones is used to the busy flow on a daily basis, but says he makes sure to never take it for granted.
“It’s the most humbling thing in the world,” Jones said. “There are thousands of places that people can choose to go and they choose to come here day in and day out.”
During Thanksgiving season, things kick into overdrive, but it actually doesn’t change the menu all that much.
“The cool thing is that we do turkey and all this stuff year round, so you can have Thanksgiving every day of the year,” James said.
Every year, Jones puts together a Thanksgiving package, complete with turkey, dressing and sides than can feed six to 10 people.
“It’s important to us because Thanksgiving is a time of giving, No. 1,” Jones said.
With the turkey, they add the usual suspects: a little mac and cheese, yams, but then they have things on the menu that you may not see every day, like their sweet potato cheesecake.
Thanksgiving package orders are available until Nov. 19th, but Jones said if years past have taught him anything, customers shouldn’t wait.
“Get your order in as soon as possible,” he said. ” Last year we had to stop taking orders early and I’m pretty sure we upset a nice handful of people.”
