Kroger announces thousands of jobs for central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of jobs are coming to the Indianapolis area as part of a plan to expand Kroger stores throughout central Indiana.

Kroger said the plan “quietly” started in 2014 and will continue in to 2017. The project will create an estimated 3,440 jobs plus construction and vendor jobs.

The plan includes 33 store projects, including new stores, store expansions, major remodels, addition of gas stations and Little Clinics.

Kroger’s four-year plan includes:

  • Seven Markeplace stores at 11700 Olio Road in Fishers, U.S. 31 and Mallory Parkway in Franklin, 8850 South Emerson Road and 5325 East Thompson Road in Indianapolis. Along with three other locations that will be announced later.
  • Four new stores at State Road 135 and Smokey Row Road in Greenwood, 116th and Michigan Road in Zionsville, Southport and Franklin Road in Indianapolis and one to be announced later.
  • Expansion of five stores located at 1217 South Range Line Road in Carmel, Independence Drive at US 31 South in Greenwood, 150 West 161st Street in Westfield and two to be announced later.

The company also plans to remodel 17 stores in the area and open a regional training center in Indianapolis.
