Libertarian Gary Johnson speaks in Indy
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gary Johnson addressed the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis Monday, saying he’s optimistic about his campaign.
The Libertarian candidate for president will be on the ballot in all 50 states and believes he has a chance to win.
That’s what every candidate says, but Johnson is getting more attention than your average third party candidate.
Still, the former New Mexico governor knows that his chances of winning are not good.
“So is this like the craziest political election that you have ever seen?” he asked the mayors. “And here’s how crazy it is, I might be the next president of the United States. That’s how crazy it is.”
When asked what he offers that Clinton and Trump don’t, Johnson said, “Well, I think it’s the unique combination of being fiscally conservative and socially liberal.”
He appeared on the day after Hillary Clinton, and he sparked less hoopla than did Lady Gaga or the Dalai Lama.
And if you can say anything about Johnson, it’s that he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
“If I’m elected president of the United States, I’m going to end the imperial presidency,” he told the mayors. “I will not snarl your cities when I come to town and travel.”
He says that he hopes to get the opportunity to play the spoiler.
