Fishers, Hamilton County unveil plans for Geist Greenway

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — Fishers government leaders and the Hamilton County commissioners are working on a new pedestrian path.

The first public hearing for the project was Tuesday night. The Geist Greenway Project would be 5 miles long, and stretch from 96th Street to 131st Street.

Jason Taylor, director of engineering for the city of Fishers, said, “So after today, we’ll hear the public comments. We won’t respond to them tonight. We will go back, our consultant will compile them, then they’ll respond formally, which will then be posted on our website or at City Hall.

The project would allow two pedestrian lanes to travel between neighborhoods near Hamilton Southeastern High School and Florida Road.

According to News 8 newspartner The Hamilton County Reporter, only Phase 1A (113th Street to 126th Street), Phase 1B (104th Street to Bowline Road/Lux Road), and the reconstruction of the Bell-Ford Bridge within Phase 1B are funded. Once funding is found for the unprogrammed phases (96th Street to 104th Street and 126th Street to Olio Road at 131st Street) a re-evaluation of the socioeconomic and natural impacts may need to happen.
