Man accused of shooting IMPD officer set for trial

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man accused of shooting an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer earlier this year is scheduled to go to trial Thursday.

Police said Roger Hawkins fired at officers back in February as they were responding to a call of gunshots being fired through a nearby home.

One of Hawkins bullets hit officer Mark Reynolds in the arm. He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He successfully underwent surgery for a broken arm and was released.

Swat teams were called out and eventually had to gas the home.

Hawkins is now facing charges for attempted murder and criminal recklessness.
