Man arrested after holding hostages inside Beech Grove home for hours

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — A SWAT standoff in Beech Grove Monday afternoon lasted well into the night and involved several hostages, according to police.

Police were called to Kiefer Court around 4:30 p.m. on report of a suicidal man wanted on a warrant.

Officers arrived to find 22-year-old Devon Evans holding two small children, ages 6 and 7, and three other adults hostage in a home, according to Beech Grove police.

Around 11 p.m., the standoff ended and police took Evans into custody. No injuries were reported.

He was wanted for invasion of privacy, according to Beech Grove police.

He faces preliminary charges of battery, domestic battery, battery with child present under 16 years old and criminal confinement.
