Motorcyclist dies after hitting deer, getting run over by semi

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A motorcyclist died early Monday morning after authorities say he hit two deer and was then run over by a semi.

Adam Curtis, 36, was riding north on State Road 9 near County Road 500 South in Hancock County around 2 a.m. when he collided with two deer, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Curtis was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the northbound lane of State Road 9. A homeowner heard the crash and spotted Curtis in the road, according to authorities. The homeowner tried to flag down a semi approaching Curtis, but the semi driver did not see the warning in time.

Curtis, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. A test revealed the semi driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine Curtis’ exact cause of death.
