Muslim Alliance of Indiana highlights local business
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Muslim Alliance of Indiana wants to give Muslim-owned businesses a chance in the spotlight.
They plan to do it through a program called “Small Business Saturday.” Every Saturday they’ll be highlighting products, services and businesses. The alliance said doing this will highlight what Muslim businesses bring to Indiana’s economy.
Inside Aquila Fatima’s Fishers home, you’ll find her business headquarters.
“I want to help the community by focusing on our kids and our future,” she said.
She keeps all her merchandise for her online business: Islamic Books for Kids. She’s been at it for about a year and a half.
“We saw the niche where we wanted to get the best books out there.”
She said contrary to her store’s name, you can find something for every child. It’s that kind of diversity that matters and one of the reasons why the Muslim Alliance of Indiana is showcasing these businesses each week.
“There is a very diverse array of businesses represented, so it’s I think it’s very important for us to highlight what they do, give them a platform to increase their awareness for their business, but it’s also great for the economy,” said Lori Joundi, executive director of the alliance.
The organization focuses on Hoosier communities while helping develop programs that foster relationships with others.
“Indiana has been very welcoming. We just love it here, so it is more diverse, more culture. They have accepted Muslim communities,” Fatima said.
She hopes this helps other Hoosiers learn about the variety of products, services and talents around the state.
“We have very diverse professional and personal backgrounds, and I love that we are able to highlight the many ways in which we give it back on an everyday basis,” said Joundi.
Fatima said what’s most important with this business is helping families build peace and family values in their children — one book at a time.
The Muslim Alliance will be posting about the businesses they feature on social media.
