New haunted house features H.H. Holmes, supports tornado victims

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new haunted house will open Thursday in conjunction with the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival.

Hotel Holmes blurs the lines between folklore and history with America’s first serial killer H.H. Holmes. Holmes is suspected in as many as 200 murders during the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893. He later lived just a few blocks from the haunted house location in Irvington.

The Bindy Agency, an Indianapolis marketing and communication firm, is partnering with The University of Indianapolis to make Hotel Holmes a reality. Bindy Agency staff have been sitting in on classes and serving as career mentors in UIndy’s Experience Design program. 15 students will gain real-world experience in public relations, acting/makeup/costume design, and set building through the haunted house, according to agency spokesperson Piper Voge.

Hotel Holmes is open Thursday, Oct. 27 through Halloween during The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival. It is located at Playground Productions at 5529 Bonna Avenue.

Tickets range from $10 to $20 depending on if you can get in on pre-sale prices or if you want a VIP ticket to skip the line. One dollar from every ticket will support the organizations providing assistance to the victims of the Aug. 24 tornadoes in central Indiana, according to The Bindy Agency.
