Parts of central Indiana under overnight frost advisory

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It’s been a chilly and blustery day across central Indiana.

Highs Saturday were in the 50s and low 60s, but those temperatures were just after midnight. Temps dropped through the morning into the 40s and stayed that way all day.

Daytime temps have been colder than normal overnight lows. Wind gusts have been as high 35 to 40 mph, sending wind chills into the 30s at times.

Winds will ease overnight. High pressure is building in, and as it does we’ll continue to dry out with clouds decreasing. Clearing and turning colder, lows will drop into the 30s late Saturday into Sunday morning.

Some places to our north will flirt with the freezing point. Near record cold will be felt in Indy (the record low is 35 degrees in 1973). Areas of frost will develop, especially north and west as winds settle down late tonight.

A frost advisory is posted for parts of central Indiana from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday. Sunshine returns to end the weekend. Highs will only reach the 50s.

The below normal temperatures linger into next week. Temps will not recover until Thursday and Friday with highs in the lower to mid 70s.
