Man killed in shooting near North Drexel Avenue
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This story has been updated to include the victim’s name.
A man was killed in a shooting on the city’s east side on Saturday night, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
The man was later identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as Jeique Dejuan Peters, 21.
At 9:22 p.m. Saturday, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of North Drexel Avenue on numerous reports of shots fired. That is near East 21st Street. Officers arrived to the scene and found Peters with gunshot wound injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:36 p.m.
According to investigators, an Amazon delivery driver discovered the body laying on the ground after making a delivery. The driver was not involved in the incident.
A baby shower event was taking place in the area during the shooting, but no one from the event was injured.
