Police: 20-year-old admits to murder of Greenfield woman
GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – The Greenfield Police Department is investigating the death of a Greenfield woman.
According to police, officers were sent to the 1100 block of Morningside Drive on Oct. 13 around 10:00 p.m. after reports of an unresponsive person.
When officers arrived, they found 52-year-old Patricia Dresser in the home. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police said during the investigation, they found her 2011 blue Ford Taurus and other personal property was missing.
On Oct. 14, the Hancock County Coroner’s Office confirmed Dresser’s death was a homicide. On the same day, the Greenfield Police Department found Dresser’s stolen vehicle after a traffic stop was conducted in the 300 block of South State Street. The driver and a passenger were arrested.
The driver, Spencer Spielman, 20 of Greenfield admitted to taking property from the Dresser residence and the murder of Dresser. The passenger is not believed to have been involved in the burglary or the homicide.
Spielman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for probation violation and held in the Hancock County Jail. Additional charges may be pending.
Court documents identified the second man as Brandon Humphries, in an interview Humphries told 24-Hour News 8, he had no clue that Spielman had stole the car in a deadly home invasion.
Humphries went through a five hour interrogation, and he told police Spielman informed him the car belonged to his mother. Humphries says it wasn’t until they were surrounded by police that he realized Spielman wasn’t telling the truth.
According to police, Humphries is not a suspect, and that is why he is not being held in jail. Humphries says he also agreed to a DNA swab to ensure his name would be cleared.
